From Mexico. Name also spelled Almageur and Alamaguer. Accused in a 4/2012 civil suit against the Dioceses of Las Cruces and El Paso, and Our Lady of Health parish in Las Cruces. One man alleged that "Santiago" abused him in 1978 at Holy Cross Retreat Center in Mesilla Park, NM, then at the retreat center for the El Paso diocese. The suit claims other known victims. Reportedly deceased. Included on the Las Cruces diocese's list with full name 11/8/2018. Abuse reported to the diocese in 2012, alleged to have occurred 1975-1978. On Gallup diocese's list in 12/2018. Died 9/8/1997. Accused in 2009, along with Rev. Conran Runnebaum OFM, of abuse of a boy, age 8, in 1961 in NM. Diocese settled. Accused in a 10/24/2019 lawsuit against the Franciscans' Holy Name Province and the Franciscan Sisters of the Poor. Per the suit, Bailey sexually abused a boy, about age 4, in 1984. Bailey was a St. Anthony Community Hospital in Warwick NY chaplain. He would allegedly pick the boy up from his school, Our Lady Queen of Peace, in West Milford and spend the day with him at the hospital. The abuse allegedly included oral sex and anal rape, and took place at the hospital facility, in the chapel and in Bailey's residence at the hospital. Bailey referred to the boy as his grandson.

In 2002 a man alleged publicly that he was raped by Boardway at age 16 in 1968. He said he told the Franciscans in 1985, and that they sent him $650. He contacted them again in 1988, with little response. In 1992 he contacted the Diocese of Lansing and was referred to a diocesan lawyer, who said the statute of limitations had expired so nothing could be done. The Order said there was no record of the man's contact with the lawyer. Boardway was sent by his Order in the early 1990s to treatment. His accuser settled with the Order in 1994 for $107.8K. Boardway also worked in TX, IN, IL, WI, NE. and NM. There is at least one other alleged victim. Boardway was murdered in 1997 while living in AZ. Included on the Lubbock diocese's list 1/31/2019; noted to have worked there 1987 until 1989, when he was removed from ministry. On the Las Cruces diocese's list 6/24/2019, where he worked in 1989. A man filed suit in 11/2007 in Navaho Nation District Court alleging Cichanowicz had given him alcohol and sexually abused him twice 1984-1985, when he was teen and Cichanowicz was assigned to Shiprock, NM. Shown in the Lafayette, IN diocese per 1989 OCD. Left Order in 1991; laicized in 1994. Worked as a counselor at Alpine Counseling in Lafayette, IN. Two more suits filed in 2009. Judge dismissed the 2007 suit; Navajo Superior Court reinstated it in 9/2011. All Plaintiffs settled in 7/2012. Agreed never to work with or around minors. Minor seminary faculty member in OR and CA 1958-1970. Parish priest. Assigned 1970-1981 to a medical dispensary in Guaymas, Sonora, Mexico in the Diocese of Ciudad Obregon. Treated at Servants of the Paraclete center 1981-1982. Admitted to mental health professionals to sexually abusing hundreds of boys. Accused in 1993 of abuse of boys at St. Anthony Minor seminary in Santa Barbara. Per the L.A. archdiocese, there were 12 accusers claiming abuse 1962-1969. One former St. Anthony's student said he reported attempted rape by Cimmarrusti to the seminary rector in 1965 and was expelled. Cimmarrusti is said to have required students to submit to his "examining" their genitalia for proper development, and hernia checks. He used embarrassment, humiliation and threats. His accusers describe violent spankings during which Cimmarrusti was clearly sexually aroused, after which he would pray for his victims while pressing their faces into his groin. They said he would then threaten them with eternal damnation. Named in a 2003 civil suit. Civil settlements in 3/2006. Last known address was San Damiano Retreat House in Danville CA. A man who was an altar boy at Guardian Angels Church in Hastings, MN in the early 1950s filed a civil suit 7/2/2014 alleging anal rape by Ferguson and referring to multiple other victims. Ferguson was at Guardian Angels 1951-1965. Worked in MN, NY, NE, IA and Ireland. Died in the 1973 (apparently in Ireland). Included in 2/2022 on the Columbans' U.S. Province list of credibly accused. One alleged victim who said Fernandez Baeza molested and raped him as a 5th-grader was convicted of rape and murder in 1995; he was executed in 2011 by the State of Texas. Fernandez Baeza was working in 2015 at Universidad de San Buenaventura in Cartagena, and posting "Sunday Reflections" on a Bogota church's website. On San Antonio archdiocese's list 1/31/2019. Garcia appealed his conviction in 2016 and was allowed to remain free pending the appeal. Indicted in 11/21 two felony counts of child sexual abuse for the abuse of two girls which occurred while awaiting the appeal. Sentenced extended in 5/22 to two additional 7-year terms.

One of several religious assigned to Santa Barbara who were named as abusers in a civil suit filed in 8/2008, which alleged that the Franciscans constituted "an ongoing public nuisance as a result of their practice of shuttling pedophile priests among communities without warning members of the public that a sexual predator might be in their midst." Abuse allegedly took place in the 1970s, 1990s-2000s. (See information in two petitions filed fall 2009.) Included on the Santa Barbara Province Franciscan's list 5/31/2019, which notes an allegation in 2006, but the "purported victim" was not forthcoming with information despite numerous attempts. Credibility and details "unconfirmed."

He worked as a physician and Holy Name Province Franciscan friar in China beginning in 1934, and was ordained there in 1949. He arrived in the U.S. in 1951 and worked for the Province in NC, GA, NJ, RI. The 1986 volume of the Official Catholic Directory shows Hamm as at the Franciscan Home for Retired Priests in St. Petersburg, FL. Died 1/8/1988 in Butler, NJ, age 86. Included on the Province's list in 10/2021 of those against whom there are substantiated allegations.

"Brother Pius." Took vows in 1962 as a Franciscan brother in Cincinnati. Assistant Director of the Over-the Rhine Youth Club in 1966. Transferred to the Philippines in 1984. Left the Franciscans in 1986. Ordained for the priesthood, worked in the Diocese of Naval, Philippines for 37 years. Would return to Cincinnati in the summers. Arrested in Naval, Biliran Province, Philippines in 12/2018. Accused of abuse of 10 boys there, as young as age 7; may be at least 50 victims. By 11/2019 around 20 had come forward. Some lived with him and were allegedly abused during baths with Hendricks. The Cincinnati Archdiocese denies authority over Hendricks, but says it did raise money for his Philippines mission. Died 1/26/2022, while on trial for the sexual abuse of two boys, who were brothers. Included on the St. John the Baptist Province Franciscans List in 6/2022.

Born Michael P. 6/28/1918 in Ireland, where he was ordained. Taught at St. Bernardine College in England until 1951, then retreat ministry in Australia. First indexed in the 1955 US.Official Catholic Directory, so may have arrived in in the U.S. (Buffalo NY) in 1954. Had a radio ministry, "Comfort My People" on Christian Broadcasting Network per a 1979 news article. Accused publicly in 2015 of the sex abuse of boy for five years, beginning 1973 when the boy was age 10. Abuse allegedly included oral sex, masturbation and attempted intercourse. Accuser said Hennessy was a father figure who stepped in to help his single mom with her three children. Reportedly a lawsuit v the Buffalo diocese was rejected due to the statute of limitations, and the plaintiff rejected a $50K settlement offer. Accuser asked Pope Francis to investigate his case. Hennessy died 5/9/1983 in Buffalo. Suit filed 8/2019 under the Child Victims Act. Included in 10/2021 on the Holy Name Province Franciscans' list of those against whom there are substantiated allegations.

Accused, along with Rev. Charles Newman, of sexually abusing a teenage boy in the mid-1990s. Newman was principal of Archbishop Ryan High School and Howitz was a maintenance worker at the school. Newman allegedly plied the boy with drugs and alcohol. Allegations against both men were reportedly deemed credible by the Archdiocese and Franciscans. Ordered to live a life of prayer and penance. The boy died of a drug overdose at age 28 in 2006. Howitz's name is included on the Our Lady of Guadalupe Franciscans' list of credibly accused as of 1/2024. A man filed a complaint with Santa Fe police in 1/1997 alleging rape and abuse by Huff on multiple occasions in the early 1980s at St. Catherine Indian School. He also alleged abuse by Fr. Christopher Kerr. Huff left the Order some time before 1997. Accused in a 2014 lawsuit of rape in 1976 of a 15-year-old boy living in St. Catherine School's dorm. Included on Santa Fe Archdiocese list of accused 9/12/2017. Worked at a behavioral health center serving mostly native Americans beginning in 1992; "retired" in 9/2017 after the center received an anonymous letter about Huff's past. Allegedly Kerr (a teacher) fondled him once in 1980 or 1981 and Huff raped him several times in the early 1980s. Kerr was working in the Cincinnati archdiocese in the late 1980s. He left the priesthood in the early 1990s. In 1997 he was was living in Houston, TX. He died in 4/2018. Croatian Franciscan. Also called John Kucon. Died 12/31/2010. Name included on the Erie Diocese's list 4/6/2018. Included on the Harrisburg Diocese's 8/1/2018 list. Included in the 8/14/2018 PA Grand Jury Report, which notes a report to the Diocese from a 39-year-old man in 3/2005 that Kucan sexually abused him from the age of 8 at St. Anthony's Croatian Church in Sharon. Allegedly Kucan performed oral sex on the boy, and another religious brother was sometimes present and would do the same thing. The Diocese informed the Order. Removed from ministry. Another report to the Diocese from a woman in 2007 of abuse of her husband when he was an altar boy in the mid-1950s at St. Anthony's. The woman said Kucan also abused her husband's cousin, who died by suicide in 1993. She said she heard other men abused by Kucan also died by suicide. A man filed suit in 1994 alleging that Lopez molested him in the rectory of Sacred Heart in Prescott when he was an altar boy in 1975. Police report at the time indicated that the victim was intoxicated when he entered Lopez's room, and that Lopez admitted full responsibility for the abuse. He promised to pay for victim's counseling but did not. The suit settled in 1996. Also worked in the Oakland and Fresno dioceses. Included on the Franciscans' Santa Barbara Province's list 5/31/2018. It notes an allegation reported in 1992 of the sexual abuse of a minor 1975-1976. Lopez died in 2004. Noted in the Necrology section of the Official Catholic Directory to have been a Chiapas, Mexico Franciscan. Chiapas is in the Diocese of San Cristobal de Las Casas. On the Oakland diocese's list in 2019; noted to have moved in 1997 to Mexico. Included in 8/2021 on the Diocese of Fresno's list of credibly accused, where he was assigned 1988-1993.

Paul West OFM, of abuse of a boy, beginning when he was ages 9 and 10 and a student at St. Francis in the mid- to late 1990s. The Franciscans settled with Lucas' accuser for $15K. He and his cousin, also alleging abuse by West, filed a federal suit in 11/2019 claiming the Order pressured them into a small settlement which required their silence. First named publicly as accused in the 8/14/2018 PA Grand Jury Report. In 4/2004 a 54-year-old woman told the diocese that when she was about 11 years old "Fr. Albert" molested her on a few occasions at St. Pamphilus. The diocese informed the Provincial of the Franciscan's Province of the Immaculate Conception in NY. In 1/2014 a 63-year-old man reported to the diocese that when he was an 11- to 14-year-old altar boy at St. Pamphilus in the mid-1960s McMahon would invite the altar boys, one at a time, to his friary room to wrestle. He said McMahon would get on top of him, always with an erection. McMahon Died 2/8/2018 in Albany, NY at age 83.

From Croatia. A woman from Great Falls reported in 1985 that Mikulich sexually abused her when she was ages 12-21 in the 1970s. He would visit the family in Great Falls. Mikulich worked in the Archdiocese of Portland 1962-1982, retired, and during 1983-1985 was at the Croatian Center in San Francisco, CA. He returned to Croatia in 1986. The archdiocese refused any assistance to the young woman and did not tell Mikulich (then age 87) of the allegations. He died in 2000 at age 101. Accused publicly in 4/2019 of sexually abusing a boy 1972-1979 while assigned to Holy Assumption School in Roebling, NJ. Began raping the plaintiff when he was a 7-year-old altar boy. The plaintiff filed a report with the NJ State Police in 1996; Munn admitted to abusing the boy as well as over a dozen others, but the statute of limitations wouldn't allow prosecution. The diocese confirmed in 2019 that in 1998 and 2007 it received multiple allegations against Munn from his time at Holy Assumption. Munn left the Franciscans at some point. In 4/2019 he was still living in DeWitt, MI. Reportedly known in DeWitt as having been a firefighter and active with the Knights of Columbus. A civil lawsuit was filed in 12/2019 under a new NJ law by the man victimized as a boy 1972-1979. A second man filed suit in early 2020 alleging abuse in NJ beginning at age 10.

Arrested, charged with obscenity in 1/2015 for showing child abuse images to a 14-year-old boy. Admitted behavior. Served six months in jail then deported to his native India in 6/2015. The boy's father alerted police. Palimattom sought the boy's help to delete the photos. Assigned to Holy Name of Jesus, West Palm Beach since 12/2014. Police said Palimattom had gotten in trouble in India for involvement with a boy. The Diocese said a background check prior to Palimattom's arrival showed no prior misconduct. Holy Name Administrator, Rev. John Gallagher, told police he was instructed that when Palimattom arrived he was to have no contact with minors without an adult present. Gallagher, who also alerted authorities about Palimattom, claimed demotion/poor treatment by the Diocese as a result in 1/2016. The Diocese refuted the claim. Gallagher filed suit against the Diocese 1/11/2017. Appeals court dismissed the suit in 5/2018, saying court cannot get involved in church administrative issues.

Placed on leave in 5/2003 after he was accused, along with another friar, of abusing a boy, ages 9-13, at St. Jude in New Lenox 1974-1978. The two Franciscans were said to have forced the boy into oral and group sex, drink alcohol and smoke marijuana. Salwach was a Franciscan brother and teacher at the time of the abuse. After his accuser filed suit in 2004, Salwich was sent for evaluation, where he admitted to fondling the boy and "a number of [other] minors" in the 1970s. The lawsuit settled. Per the Franciscans in 2005, "There is no reason to suspect Jeffrey to be a risk for offending minors." After ordination Salwach worked in Quincy IL, Galena AK, Parma and Cleveland OH, Joliet IL, San Antonio TX and Ruston LA. Still shown as an active priest per Catholic Times 5/10/2009. Reportedly in 11/2011, Salwach had recently been assigned to work at LaVerna Friary in a residential neighborhood in St. Louis, MO. Dismissed from the Order in 4/2016. Remains a priest in 5/2023. Included in the IL Attorney General's 5/23/2023 report. On the Franciscans' Our Lady of Guadalupe Province list of credibly accused as of 1/2024. (Member of the Sacred Heart Province.) Smario denied abuse but admitted being nude in front of girls occasionally. Sued by at least four of the girls in 2005. Claims included in a 11/2007 settlement with the Jesuits. Plaintiffs filed 43 suits in 1/2009 alleging the Jesuits had knowledge of abusive priests and did nothing. At least two named Smario. More claims filed in 2010. In 3/2011, 20 settled as part of a massive settlement. Per the Santa Barbara Province Franciscans on their list 5/31/2019, Smario was a lay person, not a Franciscan friar.

Soto, a Franciscan brother in training, was accused in 1995 of molesting three boys at St. Anthony's Church in Cicero IL. Soto told another friar who alerted authorities. Soto was arrested in 6/1995. The LINKUP (survivors group) later reported that that Soto may have also abused youths in Texas. Included as of 1/2024 on the Franciscans' Our Lady of Guadalupe Province list of credibly accused. Per the plaintiff's attorney, Van Handel told his superiors in the 1970s that he was attracted to young boys. Van Handel moved in 2013 to the Portland, OR area. In 2019 he was a resident of a senior living facility and had advanced Parkinson's disease. He died 6/2/2020.

Another suit filed in 11/2003 also claimed abuse at St. Mary's. Shortly before he died 12/31/1985, at age 38, Villalobos also allegedly attempted to abuse the plaintiff's brother. Walsh denied these allegations. Said to have died in Honduras 7/29/2008.

On 7/29/2018 the Jackson diocese announced a credible allegation that West had sexually abused a minor while working at St. Francis of Assisi in Greenwood, where he was teacher and principal 6/1993-11/1998. Included on the diocese's list 3/19/2019. Abuse reported in 1998 and 2018. Accused of abusing two brothers and their cousins starting when they were ages 9 and 10 and St. Francis students in the mid- to late- 1990s. The abuse reportedly included rapes and beatings. One of the three also alleged abuse by Bro. Donald Lucas, OFM. One boy told church and police in 1998; West was sent for a psych evaluation. He taught 4th and 5th grades at St. John's in Little Chute, WI 1999-2010. Left the Order in 2002. The Franciscans settled with two accusers for $15K. The alleged victims filed a federal suit in 11/2019 claiming the Order pressured them into a small settlement requiring their silence. Indicted in 8/2020 in MS. Pleaded not guilty. Charged also in WI. Suit in 6/2021 claims racial discrimination. Convicted 4/13/2022. Sentenced to 30 years on one count and an additional 15 years on a second count. Included as of 1/2024 on the Our Lady of Guadalupe Province Franciscans list of credibly accused. (West was a member of the Assumption Province.) The MS Supreme Court denied an appeal by West in 1/2024.

Order sent him to Paraclete facility for treatment for 7 months. The first woman gave birth to his son after his return. She received support from the Franciscans over the years, and made the matter public in 10/2009 because the 22-year-old son had terminal cancer and she also had cancer. A man sued the Franciscans of CA in 2001 alleging that he was abused as a minor by Wolfe in 1982 in Portland, OR when Wolfe visited his family. The suit was settled in 5/2002 for $10K. Named as an abuser in two suits filed in Fall 2009. Included on the Santa Barbara Province Franciscans list 5/31/2019, which notes allegations of the sex abuse of minors 1978-1986 received 1988, 1993 and 2009, and that he left the order in 1991.
