Fr. Thomas J. Feeney

Monsignor. Sued at least twice. Accused of abuse in 1950s-1960s. Former vicar general of diocese. Died in 1981. The Diocese admitted in 5/2006 that allegations against Feeney were credible. Four additional suits were filed in 5/2006. A civil trial began in 9/2006 in a suit filed in 2005 regarding claims that Feeney sexually abused a boy for 6 years, beginning when the boy was age 7. The plaintiff was awarded $1.5M. A man testified at the same trial that Feeney abused him as a boy in the late 1940s. Included on the Diocese’s list of credibly accused 7/15/2008. It notes allegations of abuse of 15 male minors, the earliest known abuse in 1957.

Our Database of Publicly Accused does not state or imply that individuals facing allegations are guilty of a crime or liable for civil claims. The reports contained in the database are merely allegations. The U.S. legal system presumes that a person accused of or charged with a crime is innocent until proven guilty. Similarly, individuals who may be defendants in civil actions are presumed not to be liable for such claims unless a plaintiff proves otherwise. Admissions of guilt or liability are not typically a part of civil or private settlements. For more information, see our posting policy.
