Br. Antonio F. Antonucci

Antonucci ran a street ministry for young children. Charged in 1993 with fondling a 15-year-old boy. Acquitted by court in 5/1996. Also named in a civil suit against Fr. Albert Liberatore in Scranton, PA. The suit claimed Liberatore's victim went to Antonucci for help and that Antonucci encouraged him not to tell because it would ruin his life. In 3/2007 the court dismissed the "aiding and abetting claim" against Antonucci, which was part of the suit. Included on the Rockville Centre diocese's list in 3/2021. Abuse allegedly occurred in a private home in Port Jefferson. (Per the list, Antonucci was of the O.S.F. order; the lawsuit shows him as an O.S.B. monk.)

Charged in late 1993 with raping a 20-year-old man who came to him for counseling. Acquitted in 10/1994 on the rape charge and a mistrial was declared on a charge of indecent assault. Defense claimed that the alleged victim had consented to oral sex after a night of drinking at the rectory. Prosecutors said the victim was too drunk to consent. Ares died in 1998.

Finished seminary in Rome. Worked at Vatican 1972-1974. Placed on leave in 2/2002 after a man called the Diocese to complain of abuse in 1967 when he was 17. The abuse allegedly occurred during a trip from Worcester to Canada. The man had complained to Bishop Harrington in 1994, but no action. At least one more accuser located. Unable to prosecute in MA due to the statute of limitations. Matter referred to Canada for possible prosecution. A second man filed a civil suit in 12/2004, alleging abuse in 1963. Trial set for 2006.

Allegedly abused a boy age 12 or 13 in 1976 and 1977 while assigned to St. Hedwig in Southbridge. Two brothers filed suit in 2002. Another man joined the suit in 10/2002. A fourth man later came forward with similar allegations. One case settled out of court in 5/2005 and was dismissed. A second was set for trial in 10/2006.

He reportedly fondled them and made them participate in "Greek Olympics" wherein he got them intoxicated and then made them run naked through the streets at night at his residence on Cape Cod. Also allegedly took nude photos of boys and showed them pornographic movies. He was said to have taken some boys on a trip to Paris. Resigned from his parish in 2003. Laicization announced in 8/2020.

On staff at Assumption Preparatory School in the 1960s. Allegedly pursuaded a young student to stay overnight because of the weather and gave him alcohol. Beaulac had the boy stay in his room where the alleged abuse occurred. The same accuser said another priest at the school, Rev. John Martin, initiated a "relationship" with him during the same general time period of 1965-1967. Beaulac died in 11/2000. Named in a 2002 civil suit.

Left active priesthood in 1988. By 2002 several people had accused him of abuse. A 7/2002 civil suit alleged that Blizard abused a boy in 1978-1980 as part of a child sex ring that operated out of the former House of Affirmation. Arrested in 8/2003 on a charge of indecent assault and battery on a person over age 14, in 1988. Found not guilty by court In 8/2004. Involuntary laicization granted in 2012 announced 3/5/2013.

Carelli's accuser said Carelli would call him into the principal's office and abuse him there. Further, he said that he failed only one subject that year but that Carelli kept him back, because he had refused Carelli's advances. Retired in 1993 and died in 2000. Three suits were settled out of court by 2/2006.

He was noted to be an OLLI Advisory Board member.

Also took money from the parish to send to family in the Philippines. No reason given for his removal until he was arrested in 9/2011. Fled to the Philippines in 11/2011. Extradited to US in 12/2012, arrested and held on bail. Pled guilty 2/26/2012. Sentenced to 2 1/2 years in jail, suspended for 5 years. Laicized.

Fr. Joseph Albert Fredette

Fled to Canada in 1974 after accusations he sexually abused 2-3 boys, including rape, at a halfway house for delinquents. Indicted in 1992. Arrested in 1994 and extradited from Canada. Civil suit filed in 1993 in NH by another man. Settled for $100K in 10/1994. Convicted in 1995. Sentenced to three concurrent 4-5 year sentences in prison. Served his time and was released. MA Supreme Court overturned the conviction in 10/2002, citing procedural errors. Named in D.A.'s report on the Worcester Diocese. Died in MI 6/13/2010. (Per Directories, was Joseph R., AA. There is a Joseph P. MS, ordained in 1957- not the same priest.)

A psychological evaluation in 1977 prior to ordination indicated that Gagnon had possible "sex role identification" problems. Sued in 9/2002, accused of molesting a boy, ages 10-17, in the 1980s. Took personal leave, then placed on leave by the bishop in 7/2003. Part of civil suit settled in 5/2004. Criminal charges were filed and he was arraigned in 2004 on charges of sexually assaulting an adult male parishioner in 10/2002, and assault and battery of another. Pleaded not guilty. Sentenced to 18 months supervised probation in 2005.

Convicted in 1993 of abusing 8 boys during 1972-1974 in Alamogordo NM; sentenced to 275 years. Died in prison 11/25/2008, buried in NM. Accused in new federal suit of abusing, along with D. Barfield and W. Diamond, a boy in Alamogordo. He and Diamond also worked together earlier. A new suit was filed in Denver in 12/2013. Included on the Santa Fe archdiocese's list of accused 9/12/2017. On the Las Cruces diocese's list 11/8/2018. On the Amarillo diocese's list 1/31/2019. On El Paso's list 1/31/2019. On San Angelo's list 2/13/2019. A new suit was filed 3/31/2020 against the Servants of the Paraclete, the Las Cruces, El Paso and Worcester dioceses, and two Alamogordo parishes for abuse of a boy in the 1970s. Included on the St. Benedict's Abbey (Bene Lake WI) list, as "Fr. Benet Joseph Holey." Abuse noted to have occurred in the 1950s in PA.

Some of the assaults were alleged to have occurred at a camp that Jalbert owned. One accuser said he attempted to tell the headmaster when abuse occurred but Jalbert was called into the room before he could tell.

Accused in a 1993 lawsuit of sexually abusing a boy 1968-1979, starting when the boy was age 9. Allegedly offered the boy to other priests for sex. Settled in 1995. Often associated with Revs. Thomas Teczar and Victor Frobas. Co-founder and director of House of Affirmation, a treatment center for clergy in Whitensville MA. Left in 1986 after allegations of financial improprieties; skimmed funds to buy resort properties in FL and ME. Left the diocese in 1993. Continued to receive financial support from the diocese while working in Guadalajara, Jalisco Mexico, as director of the Worldwide Teachers Institute, which he helped found. Kane lived in a house near the institute, and had young men and boys living with him. He fled in 12/2002 after news in Boston of allegations against him and that he might be in Jalisco. Voluntary laicization in 2012, announced 3/5/2013.

Fr. Thaddeus J. Kardas

A woman sued in 1993 alleging that when she was age 11 Kardas referred to her as his girlfriend, kissed her in the rectory, and often attempted to caress her. The behavior allegedly occurred for a year. He was in his mid-twenties. The suit was settled in 1995 for $55K. Another women had complained about Kardas prior to the 1993 allegation. Placed on leave in 1993. Remained on leave until his death in 8/2006.

Several civil suits. First civil suit filed in 1993. In 1997 one plaintiff was awarded $527K from Kelley. Ceased to be active priest in 1986. Two lawsuits settled in 2006. Laicized in 6/2015, after which diocesan support was discontinued. In 2015 he was reportedly living in a homeless shelter in Boston.

Br. Louis Laperle

"Br. Philip." A man alleged in 2003 that he was molested by Laperle in 1968 when Laperle was teacher and/or principal at Notre Dame Academy in Fitchburg. Laperle left MA in 1969 for RI and never returned. In 4/2004, Laperle was acquitted by a jury of charges of assault and battery involving the student in 1968. The alleged incident actually involved indecent assault and battery but that charge did not exist in 1968, so it could not be used. Retired after acquittal. Died in 10/2021.

Brother of the Slaves of the Immaculate Heart of Mary (M.I.C.M.), based at St. Benedict Abbey in Harvard MA. Died 12/29/2013, age 86. A man told the Order in 2017 that Martin raped him as a boy in the 1970s. The man filed suit in 7/2018, claiming Abbot Francis X. Connelly knew Martin admitted the abuse to the police in 2013, but didn't tell him. A CA monsignor had contacted police after the man confided in him. The man also claimed the Abbot offered to help with his medical expenses, but withdrew the offer because his needs were too costly.

Messier allegedly had inappropriate sexual contact with a 9-year-old boy in Worcester in 1980 at a camp owned by the priest's family. Bishop Harrington was informed immediately, and promised that Messier would never again have access to young people. Transferred. Victim learned of the transfer in 2002 and filed suit. Two other men the joined suit, alleging abuse as twelve-year-olds in the late 1970s. Investigated by DSS in 2003 for recent allegations. DSS found support for the allegations but a Grand Jury chose not to indict. An additional suit was filed in 12/2004. Messier died 7/3/2018.

Page allegedly introduced the boy to four other priests who also abused him. Died in 1998. Accuser's brother expressed doubt that the allegations were true. Page was Vicar General of Worcester in 1983. As Vicar General he was given information on abuse by Revs. Jean Paul Gagnon, Thomas Teczar and Robert Kelley, among others, but no action.

In the early 1980s Provost was sent to the House of Affirmation after a pastor gave auxiliary bishop Harrington photos that Provost took of boys in their underwear. Made pastor in 1988. Removed in 1/1992; sent to St. Luke's Institute. Convicted in 1/9393 of taking nude photos of a 10-year-old. Received a 10-year suspended sentence. In 1/1992 Provost gave police 100+ nude and semi-nude photos of boys he had taken starting in 1977. The jury in a 1996 civil trial found the diocese and bishop not responsible and determined that the plaintiff did not suffer physical harm from the pictures. A new suit filed in 10/2010 claimed abuse 1979-1982. Bishop McManus announced on 11/18/2021 that Provost had been laicized.

Fr. Donald J. Rebokus

In 2003 a man alleged that he was molested in the mid-1970s by Rebokus while a student at Holy Name High School, where Rebokus was headmaster. The abuse allegedly would involve wrestling, showers and massages, and continued at a parish after Rebokus left the school. Rebokus' accuser said the abuse stopped when the he bested Rebokus in wrestling. Rebokus died in 1983. He had also been a state police chaplain.

Prohibited in 1978 from ministry in the Hartford archdiocese after an allegation received. Became priest of the Worcester Diocese in 1980. Per 8/2002 article, a youth accused Szantyr in 1987 of molesting him for two years. Family went to police; charges not pursued. Szantyr left MA in 1986 or 1987. Charged in 6/2003 with three counts of indecent assault and battery on a child under 14. Had been accused of molesting two altar boys. No trial as of 4/2007 due to Szantyr's mental condition. A private investigator found him walking and driving on his own in 5/2007. Civil suit filed in 1/2005. Ruled incompetent to stand trial 5/2008. Died 5/16/2014 in Waterbury, CT. Charges were pending, then formally dropped after his death. On the Hartford archdiocese's list 1/22/2019.

Fr. Thomas H. Teczar

Removed from the Worcester, MA diocese in 1986 for sexually abusing boys. Later became a visiting priest in the Fort Worth, TX diocese whose bishop, Joseph Delaney, knew of Teczar's history and acknowledged the risk in hiring him. Teczar was convicted in 2007 of sexually assaulting an 11-year-old TX boy in 1990. That conviction was overturned in 2007, but a retrial in 2009 resulted again in conviction. Sentenced to 50 years in prison. His victim testified that Teczar had shown him pornography and plied him with alcohol and marijuana. Subject of multiple lawsuits: In 10/2002 a MA jury found for a plaintiff who had filed a suit in 1996; no damages awarded. Civil suits by five plaintiffs in Fort Worth and Amarillo settled in 2005 and 2007. Another claim settled in 2/2008. Laicization announced 9/9/2011. In 3/2002 a man gave the Worcester County D.A. a written confession from Walsh regarding his abuse, which began in the late 1970s. Walsh had been serving as chaplain with the MA state police. Walsh admitted the abuse and was removed from police and parish duties in 3/2002. Resigned in 2003. The Diocese had known of the abuse since 1998 when Walsh's victim reported it in a letter. Walsh denied it at that time. In 2012 Attorney Mitchell Garabedian announced that he had settled a lawsuit(s) alleging abuse by Walsh.
