Fr. Gregory Yacyshyn

Accused in a 1/15 lawsuit of sexually abusing an 8-year-old girl in 2003 while assigned to St. Francis of Assisi in Greenlawn, NY. The girl’s family reported the alleged abuse to the Diocese and law enforcement; the Diocese did not inform the parish or public and kept Yacyshyn in ministry. The Diocese deemed the allegations unsubstantiated and called the claim an “unfortunate publicity stunt.” A New York Supreme Court judge ruled in 12/15 that the lawsuit could proceed. A second accuser filed suit in 4/25/16, alleging sexual abuse when he was 5- to 7-years-old in 2001-2003 at St. Francis of Assisi in Greenlawn. Yacyshyn denied the allegations. Working at St. Jude’s in Mastic Beach in 4/16.

Our Database of Publicly Accused does not state or imply that individuals facing allegations are guilty of a crime or liable for civil claims. The reports contained in the database are merely allegations. The U.S. legal system presumes that a person accused of or charged with a crime is innocent until proven guilty. Similarly, individuals who may be defendants in civil actions are presumed not to be liable for such claims unless a plaintiff proves otherwise. Admissions of guilt or liability are not typically a part of civil or private settlements. For more information, see our posting policy.
