Fr. Donald J. Whelan
Accused in a 2/26/04 lawsuit of sexually abusing a boy 1964-65, beginning when the boy was age 12. The abuse allegedly occurred in the rectory of St. John Vianney in the Bronx and on overnight beach trips, and included anal penetration. (The suit misspells the priest’s name as Whalen.) Died in 1987. On archdiocese’s list 4/26/19. Claims against Whelan eligible for IRCP. In 11/19 lawsuit, accused along with Auxiliary Bishop Austin Vaughan, of sexually abusing a boy in 1979 while both men were assigned to St. Patrick’s in Newburgh.
