Fr. Michael Edwin Wempe

Accused of abuse of 13 minors 1972-1995, per the Archdiocese. Sued several times in 2002-2003. Criminally charged. Charges dropped due to a 2003 CA Supreme Court ruling regarding the statute of limitations. Re-arrested in 2003. Convicted on one count in 2006. Sentenced to three years in prison in 5/2006. Included in a 12/2006 $60M settlement. Laicized in 2006. Settlement in 2020 in the low six figures of a claim of abuse of a boy, ages 14-15, in 1974-1975 while assigned to St. Jude’s in Westlake Village. The Archdiocese’s list in 12/2021 shows Wempe to be deceased.
