Fr. Joseph L. Welsh
Per documents released in 9/2002, officials were warned in 1993 and again in 2001 that Welsh had abused children in two parishes. He was nonetheless promoted in 1997. One woman complained in 1993 that Welsh had raped her son. Another mother wrote to the archdiocese in 2001. Removed in 2/2002 and resigned 3/2002 “as requested” after three brothers complained of abuse over a 20-year period. Welsh was in seminary with five other known abusers. Last known to be living in Carver, MA. Assigned to life of prayer and penance in 2004. Included on the archdiocese’s list in 8/2011. Died in St. Louis MO 2/8/2019.
