Fr. Martin J. Walsh

Ordained: 1974
Status: Settled

Died: 06/21/2007
Diocese: Archdiocese of Boston MA

Allegation in late 1997 of abuse of a 14-year-old boy and possibly others in about 1975. Walsh denied abuse but admitted to ongoing alcohol problems. Per an 11/2003 memo, Walsh was on permanent disability as of 2002 but had asked to return to ministry. File outlines his problems from 1981 through 2003. Cardinal Law told Walsh he was restricted in 11/2002, but didn’t follow through, so Walsh was not really restricted. Per the 8/2011 Boston archdiocese list of accused, the Review Board found the allegations could not be substantiated. Died in 6/2007, age 58. Included on Attorney Garabedian’s list 3/28/2016 of accused clerics named in civil claims resulting in settlements or arbitration awards. Settlement in 12/2004 with the archdiocese regarding alleged abuse in 1975 at a Waltham parish.

Our Database of Publicly Accused does not state or imply that individuals facing allegations are guilty of a crime or liable for civil claims. The reports contained in the database are merely allegations. The U.S. legal system presumes that a person accused of or charged with a crime is innocent until proven guilty. Similarly, individuals who may be defendants in civil actions are presumed not to be liable for such claims unless a plaintiff proves otherwise. Admissions of guilt or liability are not typically a part of civil or private settlements. For more information, see our posting policy.
