Fr. John H. Wadeson

Order: SVD
Ordained: 1969
Status: Reinstated

Diocese: Archdiocese of Los Angeles CA

Accused of abuse of two minors 1973-1977, per the 2004 Los Angeles Archdiocesan Report. Also worked in the New York and/or Brooklyn, Trenton NJ and Portland OR dioceses. Banned from working in the Los Angeles archdiocese; in 2014 was found working as as priest in Guam, apparently since at least 2000. Idenitified himself as an “Australian priest of the Archdiocese of Agana in Guam, Micronesia.” The Guam Archdiocese Directory indicated he was incardinated there but assigned to Neocatechumenal Center in San Francisco, CA. Removed from active ministry 07/22/2014; the Archdiocese admitted it knew of past allegations in 2000 when he was incardinated. As of 7/23/2014, Wadeson had left Guam, possibly to San Francisco. He denied all allegations. The San Francisco Archdiocese withdrew his privileges as of 07/21/2014. His reinstatement to the Agana archdiocese was announced 4/15/2015, after the Los Angeles Archdiocese reviewed the case and said that, since there appeared to have been no settlement and Wadeson was not convicted, he was “a priest in good standing.”

Our Database of Publicly Accused does not state or imply that individuals facing allegations are guilty of a crime or liable for civil claims. The reports contained in the database are merely allegations. The U.S. legal system presumes that a person accused of or charged with a crime is innocent until proven guilty. Similarly, individuals who may be defendants in civil actions are presumed not to be liable for such claims unless a plaintiff proves otherwise. Admissions of guilt or liability are not typically a part of civil or private settlements. For more information, see our posting policy.
