Fr. Jerome Toohey
“Jeff.” Accused in 12/1993 of sexually abusing a male Calvert Hall High school student he was counseling, from 1985-1989. Denied the allegations, refused to go to treatment. On leave without faculties from 1993. Suit filed in 1994, dismissed in 1996. Accused in 2004 of sexually abusing another Calvert Hall student, from 1987-1990. Criminally charged in 5/2005. Pleaded guilty. Sentenced to five years in prison, all but 18 months suspended, and 18 months of supervised probation. Released after 10 months. Laicization announced in 5/2008. On sex offender registry. Settlement for $30K in 2014 with another victim. Allegation in 2015 of abuse 1980-1987. Two more settlements, for $85K and $100K. Included in the 4/5/2023 MD Attorney General’s Report.
