Fr. John K. Rogers

Noted religious scholar and former campus minister at Humboldt State University. Died by suicide 11/8/1995 in Belgium upon being ordered back to the US to face allegations that he sexually abused a 15-year-old boy in 1976. His suicide note declared innocence but said the pain and embarrassment were too much to handle. His accuser said he first complained in 1989 and again in 1995; he died of drug abuse about six years after Rogers’ death.

Our Database of Publicly Accused does not state or imply that individuals facing allegations are guilty of a crime or liable for civil claims. The reports contained in the database are merely allegations. The U.S. legal system presumes that a person accused of or charged with a crime is innocent until proven guilty. Similarly, individuals who may be defendants in civil actions are presumed not to be liable for such claims unless a plaintiff proves otherwise. Admissions of guilt or liability are not typically a part of civil or private settlements. For more information, see our posting policy.
