Fr. Edward D. Richard
Placed on leave in 4/02 after the diocese learned that police were investigating Richard due to allegations of child sexual abuse. Two men filed suit in 6/02 alleging the priest abused them while he was assigned to Our Lady of Mercy in Merrimack 1973-82. Richard retired in late 5/03. The criminal investigation was still ongoing at the time. Claims likely part of 5/03 settlement involving 61 plaintiffs. Assigned to a life of prayer and penance and deceased, per the diocese’s list 7/31/19. Accused in a lawsuit that settled in 4/20 in the low five figures of fondling a boy, age 17, in 1987, in the St. John Neumann Parish rectory in Merrimack.
