Fr. Robert F. Ponciroli
Removed from ministry in 2/9/1995 and sent to therapy due to an allegation. Accused in a lawsuit filed in 8/2002 of sexually abusing a boy, age 11, in 1975 in Antioch, CA. Arrested in 2/2003 for the abuse of two brothers. Charges dropped in 6/2003 after a US Supreme Court ruling regarding the statute of limitations. The brothers filed suit in 3/2003, resulting in a $2M verdict in 4/2005. There were at least 7 other known victims, per the plaintiffs’ attorney. Ponciroli admitted he was a sex addict. Laicized in 2005. Died 1/19/2009. Included on the Diocese’s list of credibly accused in 2019.
