Fr. Thomas E. O’Dea
A man came forward in 1993 to allege that he had been molested by O’Dea in the 1960s in a school basement when he was age 12. The man said he was also abused by James Porter when the two priests were assigned to the same parish. Review board unanimously found “insufficient evidence of improper activity.” Bishop O’Malley allowed O’Dea to continue in active ministry until his death in 1/99. Included in 1/21 on the diocese’s list of accused.

Our Database of Publicly Accused does not state or imply that individuals facing allegations are guilty of a crime or liable for civil claims. The reports contained in the database are merely allegations. The U.S. legal system presumes that a person accused of or charged with a crime is innocent until proven guilty. Similarly, individuals who may be defendants in civil actions are presumed not to be liable for such claims unless a plaintiff proves otherwise. Admissions of guilt or liability are not typically a part of civil or private settlements. For more information, see our posting policy.
