Fr. Lawrence C. Murphy
Resigned as director of St. John School for Deaf in 1974 after complaints by students. Reassigned to parishes in the Archdiocese of Milwaukee and the Diocese of Superior (where he abused at least two). Suit filed in 1975; settled before trial. Murphy told the Archdiocese he sexually abused 34 boys at the school. He died in 1998. Suit filed in 7/08. Documents released in 5/09 and 7/13 show he abused over 200 youths. New suits filed in 8/09 and 11/09. Suit filed in 2010 against the Vatican, dismissed in 2/12. Included in 11/22 on the Diocese of Superior’s list of credibly accused, where he assisted parishes during retirement for almost 20 years.
