Br. Ralph A. Mravintz
Professed vows as a Marianist brother in 1944. Worked in OH, NY, FL, TN and PA. Teacher at Pittsburgh’s North Catholic High School. Accused of molesting a male student, age 15, 10/1984-2/1985. Mravintz would hug, say “I love you” to and fondle the boy, who had sought help with studies. Mravintz faced charges of indecent assault and corrupting a minor, but was not removed from his classroom. He pled no contest to disorderly conduct because boy did not want to testify. Diocese denied responsibility because Mravintz was a member of a religious order. Died in 5/2006. In 5/2014, the Archdiocese denied any knowledge of the 1985 charges until notified by an alumnus in response to a request for complaints regarding Br. Hartman, another abusive priest. The Marianists’ U.S. Provincial apologized in writing to the Diocese and students. On Order’s list of accused 6/24/2020.

Our Database of Publicly Accused does not state or imply that individuals facing allegations are guilty of a crime or liable for civil claims. The reports contained in the database are merely allegations. The U.S. legal system presumes that a person accused of or charged with a crime is innocent until proven guilty. Similarly, individuals who may be defendants in civil actions are presumed not to be liable for such claims unless a plaintiff proves otherwise. Admissions of guilt or liability are not typically a part of civil or private settlements. For more information, see our posting policy.
