Fr. Gerald Moffat
Accused in a 2002 lawsuit of abuse of a boy, ages 11-13, in the early 1970s. Moffat was assigned to Holy Family Church in Kirkland at the time. Placed on leave in summer 2002. The plaintiff died by suicide shortly after the suit was filed and his parents joined the suit. It settled in 6/2005. A second suit was filed in 9/2003 and later settled. Permanently barred from active ministry in 2/2006. Accused in a new suit filed in 6/2011. Name included on the archdiocese’s list 1/15/2016 of clergy and religious with established, admitted or credible allegations against them of sexual abuse of a minor, status ‘permanent prayer and penance.’ The list in 3/2021 shows Moffat to be deceased. In 10/2024 the Archdiocese announced that it had settled two lawsuits claiming abuse by Moffat in the mid-1980s while he was assigned to Our Lady of Sorrows in Snoqualmie.
