The Baltimore Archdiocese informed the Portland ME Diocese, where Michaud was then assigned, and he was placed on leave. Sent to St. Luke Institute for treatment. Michaud worked in MD in 1973-1978, before transferring to the Diocese of Portland, where he was incardinated in 1982. Name released as credibly accused by Portland bishop in 1/2007. The Bishop recommended laicization but matter was still pending with the Vatican. Lawsuit filed in 9/2007 by a man alleging abuse as an altar boy in the early 1980s in Westbrook ME. Judge awarded plaintiff $4.4M judgment against Michaud (who had no assets) in 7/2009. Plaintiff had earlier settled with the diocese. A man told the MD A.G. in 2018 that Michaud abused him at age 13 in the 1970s. In 2019 a woman alleged Michaud tried to kiss her as a child between 1965-1967. A 2021 suit claims abuse of a teenage boy in the 1980s in Biddeford ME. Another suit was filed in 6/2022. Included in the 4/5/2023 MD Attorney General’s Report.

Our Database of Publicly Accused does not state or imply that individuals facing allegations are guilty of a crime or liable for civil claims. The reports contained in the database are merely allegations. The U.S. legal system presumes that a person accused of or charged with a crime is innocent until proven guilty. Similarly, individuals who may be defendants in civil actions are presumed not to be liable for such claims unless a plaintiff proves otherwise. Admissions of guilt or liability are not typically a part of civil or private settlements. For more information, see our posting policy.
