Fr. John M. Mendicoa
From Spain. Assigned to Sacred Heart in Roslindale when the Archdiocese announced 8/14/2011 that Mendicoa was placed on leave after an allegation that he sexually abused a child in the 1980s. Law enforcement was notified. Worked in PA, MD and Washington DC. At various times, he also appeared to be affiliated with different Orders. Included on the Boston Archdiocese’s list of accused as of 3/2012. In 4/2012, the Archdiocese deemed the allegations to be ‘unsubstantiated’ and assigned him to status of “senior priest, restricted.” Status unchanged on the list in 8/2022, although Mendicoa died in 2019.

Our Database of Publicly Accused does not state or imply that individuals facing allegations are guilty of a crime or liable for civil claims. The reports contained in the database are merely allegations. The U.S. legal system presumes that a person accused of or charged with a crime is innocent until proven guilty. Similarly, individuals who may be defendants in civil actions are presumed not to be liable for such claims unless a plaintiff proves otherwise. Admissions of guilt or liability are not typically a part of civil or private settlements. For more information, see our posting policy.
