Complaints made as early as 1977. Cardinal Medeiros recommended therapy but Meffan became a counselor. By 1985 he was back in a parish assignment. Memo from Bishop Robert Banks in 1986 noted that Meffan was engaged in sexual acts with girls as young as 15. One woman said in 1993 that Meffan participated in sexual acts with four girls at the same time. Retired in 1996. “Voluntarily” laicized in 2004. Last known to be living in White Horse Beach, Plymouth. Per the Boston archdiocese’ list in 8/2011, the case concluded canonically.
