Fr. John B. Mea
A 2003 civil suit alleged that Mea raped an altar boy in the early 1960s. The plaintiff was offered a small financial settlement in 2002, which he refused. Diocese said Mea was not assigned to the parish in question at the time of the alleged abuse. In 8/03 a judge dismissed the lawsuit as being barred by the statute of limitations. Said discrepancy in dates of abuse did not help. Mea died in 1984. This was only known allegation against him.

Our Database of Publicly Accused does not state or imply that individuals facing allegations are guilty of a crime or liable for civil claims. The reports contained in the database are merely allegations. The U.S. legal system presumes that a person accused of or charged with a crime is innocent until proven guilty. Similarly, individuals who may be defendants in civil actions are presumed not to be liable for such claims unless a plaintiff proves otherwise. Admissions of guilt or liability are not typically a part of civil or private settlements. For more information, see our posting policy.
