Report made to Stockton police in 2001 of inappropriate conduct by Mascardo toward a minor; no charges were filed. The claim resurfaced in 7/2015. Placed on leave and the Diocese investigated. In 5/2016, the diocese’s review board told the bishop it “did not determine sexual abuse occurred.” Mascado’s return to ministry as a hospital chaplain in Modesto was announced in 12/2016. Among previous assignments: St. George’s, Stockton 1996-1999; St. Mary of the Assumption 1999-2006; St. Anthony’s, Hughson 2006-2011; St. Patrick’s, Sonora and in residence at Holy Family in Modesto until his 7/2015 removal.
