Fr. Robert F. Lentz
Parish priest; chaplain for juvenile courts; worked with the Catholic Youth Department; worked with National Scouting. In residence 1973-1974 at Cardinal Gibbons High School, CYO 1973-1976, Director of Youth Office 1976-1978. In 1980 given the Cardinal Shehan Award for “outstanding contributions to the total development of youth.” Placed on leave in 12/2002 after allegations that he abused two boys in the mid- to late-1960s; one at age 10 or 11 in 1964, the other at age 14-16 in 1967-1968. One received a $35K settlement, the other said he also abused other boys and that he gave them alcohol. Lentz denied the allegations. Sent to St. John Vianney Center for treatment. Two more men came forward in 12/2002 alleging abuse as boys. One received a settlement of $80K. In 2006 a man alleged abuse as an altar boy by Lentz in the 1960s. In 2017 another man said Lentz abused him as a 2nd-grader during 1984-1986. Lentz died 09/15/2007. Included on the archdiocese’s list of accused in 2019. Included in the 4/5/2023 MD Attorney General’s Report.
