Removed from ministry in 1992. Accused of child sex abuse, said to have “favor[ed] Hispanic boys.” Changed name to Jaime, built a career as an academic; Yale professor, then at Arizona State from 2013 until his forced resignation in 11/2017 after revelations of his history of abusing children. Laicized 3/30/2017. Name quietly posted to the diocesan website 11/2017 regarding allegations and laicization. At least five alleged Lara victims applied to the diocese’s 2017 Independent Reconciliation and Compensation Program (IRCP). Accusations include abuse of three children, ages 9-11, at St. Francis Xavier parish in Brooklyn.
