Fr. Michael W. Kuchar
Retired to senior priest status in 6/2018. According to the MI Attorney General’s Diocese of Lansing Report in 12/2024, there were several complaints over the years of Kuchar behaving in unwanted and sexually inappropriate ways toward adults, male and female. In 8/2018 someone reported to Bishop Boya that their friend’s adult son told them he had been molested by Kuchar as a young boy. The alleged victim did not want to come forward. In 9/2018 a priest told the bishop that he was told that a man recently disclosed abuse by Kuchar as a child. This may or may not have been the same young man as in the first case. Also in 9/2018 the Diocesan Victims Assistant Coordinator interviewed the mother of an alleged victim, who said her son told her and her husband in 2009 that Kuchar raped him in 1995 or 1996 at age 13 or 14. The mother said she told a Fr. Klein about it but nothing was done because her son would not come forward. The mother said a friend of hers suspected that Kuchar had also sexually abused her son. In an 11/2018 interview, the alleged victim told the A.G.’s investigator that Kuchar sexually assaulted him twice during his 8th grade year at St. Therese. There was no prosecution due to the statute of limitations. Per the Diocesan Review Board in 7/2020 there was insufficient evidence to make a determination as to the verity of the allegation.

Our Database of Publicly Accused does not state or imply that individuals facing allegations are guilty of a crime or liable for civil claims. The reports contained in the database are merely allegations. The U.S. legal system presumes that a person accused of or charged with a crime is innocent until proven guilty. Similarly, individuals who may be defendants in civil actions are presumed not to be liable for such claims unless a plaintiff proves otherwise. Admissions of guilt or liability are not typically a part of civil or private settlements. For more information, see our posting policy.
