Fr. John (Gregory) Knoernschild
Accused by a former Crespi Carmelite High School student of sexually abusing him in 1977-1978. Knoernschild was in the L.A. archdiocese before Orange was established in 1976. Left the archdiocese in 1996, returned in 1998, and left again in 2001. At least one claim against Knoernschild was included in a $10M settlement with the Order and L.A. Archdiocese in 10/2006. Died 11/14/2010. Included on the Carmelites list of accused 11/22/2020. Added in 1/2021 to the Diocese of Joliet’s list, where he was assigned 1970-1974 to Joliet Catholic High School. Included in the IL Attorney General’s 5/23/2023 report, which notes two “reported survivors.”
