Fr. Charles R. Kane
Died 5/19/1986. Accused by his sister, after his death, of sexually abusing her son; she further alleged that “something was [also] going on with a young man” who lived with Kane in his family home. The 8/2011 Boston Archdiocese list reported no formal determination of guilt either because Kane died prior to a canonical investigation or it was not complete at his death. There was a settlement in 2020, in the high five figures. In this case, Kane was accused of sexually abusing an altar boy, age 11-12, in 1973 or 1974, while assigned to St. Mary’s in Billerica.

Our Database of Publicly Accused does not state or imply that individuals facing allegations are guilty of a crime or liable for civil claims. The reports contained in the database are merely allegations. The U.S. legal system presumes that a person accused of or charged with a crime is innocent until proven guilty. Similarly, individuals who may be defendants in civil actions are presumed not to be liable for such claims unless a plaintiff proves otherwise. Admissions of guilt or liability are not typically a part of civil or private settlements. For more information, see our posting policy.
