Fr. Ernest Karl Huller

Ordained: 1954
Status: Settled

Died: 11/19/1997
Diocese: Diocese of Springfield MA

Two men filed separate suits (one in 11/2002 and one in 3/2003) alleging they were abused as students in the 1960s at Cathedral High School in Springfield by Huller. Huller was at the school 1959-1970 as a teacher, guidance counselor and athletics director. He became the diocesan schools superintendent in 1970. In 7/2004 the Diocese settled with 46 clergy abuse victims for more than $7M, including two plaintiffs with allegations against Huller. Huller was an Army chaplain for 19 years. He died in 1997. A third accusation, by a woman claiming sexual abuse by Huller as a student at Cathedral High in the 1960s, was deemed credible by the Diocese in 12/2020. Settlement in 5/2021 in the low five figures. Added to the Diocese’s list in 6/2021, which notes just one credible allegation.

Our Database of Publicly Accused does not state or imply that individuals facing allegations are guilty of a crime or liable for civil claims. The reports contained in the database are merely allegations. The U.S. legal system presumes that a person accused of or charged with a crime is innocent until proven guilty. Similarly, individuals who may be defendants in civil actions are presumed not to be liable for such claims unless a plaintiff proves otherwise. Admissions of guilt or liability are not typically a part of civil or private settlements. For more information, see our posting policy.
