Fr. John Hoehl
Placed on leave in 1986 due to allegations. Sent to Southdown in Canada for treatment. Reassigned. Allegedly abused boys, ages 9-18, including sodomy during the 1960s-1990s. One known alleged victim later died by suicide. Sexual assault alleged also of a female high schooler. Left active priesthood in 1988. Civil suits filed by 7-8 men in 2001 and 2003-2004 alleging abuse by Hoehl in the early 1980s. Laicized in 6/2004. Per a 2002 article, he was children’s therapist in WV. Board of Counselors investigated and found allegations credible. Surrendered his license in 3/2007. In 10/2007 32 alleged victims settled with the diocese. Named in the 8/14/2018 PA Grand Jury Report. Included on the diocese’s list of credibly accused. New lawsuit filed in 8/2018. Suit filed in 10/2018 by a man alleging rape ages 14-17 by Hoehl when he was headmaster and counselor at Quigley Catholic High in Baden. Suit filed in 11/2018.
