Fr. Milton J. Guthrie
Died in 4/02. Named as abuser in a 10/08 civil suit against the Diocese. Accuser alleged that Guthrie abused him in the 1970s when he was a youth. Trial court failed in 4/09 to dismiss based on Diocese’s claim of statute of limitations; Diocese appealed. Appeals court dismissed the suit based on SOL in 5/10. TN Supreme Court ruled in 2/12 that the plaintiff’s claims were not barred by SOL and discovery could continue in lower court.

Our Database of Publicly Accused does not state or imply that individuals facing allegations are guilty of a crime or liable for civil claims. The reports contained in the database are merely allegations. The U.S. legal system presumes that a person accused of or charged with a crime is innocent until proven guilty. Similarly, individuals who may be defendants in civil actions are presumed not to be liable for such claims unless a plaintiff proves otherwise. Admissions of guilt or liability are not typically a part of civil or private settlements. For more information, see our posting policy.
