Deacon Jesus Guerrero
Diocese: Diocese of Lubbock TX
Ordained as deacon in 1997. Named publicly as accused by the Lubbock diocese on its list 1/31/19. Assigned 1997-2003 to Our Lady of Grace in Lubbock, and at San Ramon in Woodrow 2006-07. Suspended in 2003. Reinstated in 2006. Permanently removed from ministry in 2008. Guerrero filed suit against the diocese in 3/19, claiming he was wrongly named on the diocese’s list of credibly accused clergy. His attorney said the accuser was a woman in her 40s who said the priest did not abuse her. The diocese stated in 4/19 that the accuser is the equivalent to a minor under canon law because she “habitually lacks the use of reason.” The state supreme court ruled in 6/21 that the diocese could include Guerrero on its list of credibly accused. (Referred to in 6/21 news as “Jesse” Guerrero. Another deacon by that name was accused in Amarillo TX.)

Our Database of Publicly Accused does not state or imply that individuals facing allegations are guilty of a crime or liable for civil claims. The reports contained in the database are merely allegations. The U.S. legal system presumes that a person accused of or charged with a crime is innocent until proven guilty. Similarly, individuals who may be defendants in civil actions are presumed not to be liable for such claims unless a plaintiff proves otherwise. Admissions of guilt or liability are not typically a part of civil or private settlements. For more information, see our posting policy.
