Fr. Paul E. Groleau
By 5/2002 two lawsuits had been filed that named “Grolleau” as an abuser. Both plaintiffs were boys at the time of the alleged abuse in the late 1960s-early 1970s. At least one claim was included in a 11/2002 $5M settlement involving 62 plaintiffs and 28 priests. As Diocesan Vocations Director in the 1970s, Groleau helped Gordon MacRae become a priest of the diocese, despite negative evaluations. (MacRae was later convicted of child sex abuse.) Groleau was laicized in 1989, prior to the reports against him of abuse. Included on the Diocese’s list 7/31/2019.

Our Database of Publicly Accused does not state or imply that individuals facing allegations are guilty of a crime or liable for civil claims. The reports contained in the database are merely allegations. The U.S. legal system presumes that a person accused of or charged with a crime is innocent until proven guilty. Similarly, individuals who may be defendants in civil actions are presumed not to be liable for such claims unless a plaintiff proves otherwise. Admissions of guilt or liability are not typically a part of civil or private settlements. For more information, see our posting policy.
