Ordained: 1986
Status: Accused

Diocese: Diocese of Lansing MI

From Samoa. Ordained in 1986 for the Diocese of Lansing. Assigned to St. Patrick’s in Brighton MI, then 1987-1989 to St. Paul’s in Owosso MI and Holy Redeemer in Burton MI 1989-1990. According to the MI Attorney General’s 12/16/2024 Diocese of Lansing Report, Thomsen sexually abused multiple teenage boys in MI. He had a “special club” for boys at St. Paul’s and gave them each a special patch for being in the club. He allegedly provided boys with alcohol and a drink made with Kava that would make them numb. He let the boys drive his car. The activities took place in the parish rectory. He would have boys sleep in bed with him. One of the boys found a book under Thomsen’s mattress called “Aussie Boys – The True Homosexual Experience.” Thomsen returned to Samoa in 6/1990 on leave of absence. He was laicized in 4/2020 and in 2024 is said to be living in Waipahu, Hawaii.

Our Database of Publicly Accused does not state or imply that individuals facing allegations are guilty of a crime or liable for civil claims. The reports contained in the database are merely allegations. The U.S. legal system presumes that a person accused of or charged with a crime is innocent until proven guilty. Similarly, individuals who may be defendants in civil actions are presumed not to be liable for such claims unless a plaintiff proves otherwise. Admissions of guilt or liability are not typically a part of civil or private settlements. For more information, see our posting policy.
