Status: Accused

Died: 11/18/1976
Diocese: Archdiocese of Baltimore MD

Monsignor. Named publicly as accused in the 4/5/2023 MD Attorney General’s Report. A woman reported to the Archdiocese in 2002 that Wooden sexually assaulted her in the rectory of Blessed Sacrament in Baltimore when she was working there as a teenager in the 1970s. He had pinned her against a wall and rubbed his exposed penis against her. Two seminarians entered the room and helped her get out. In 1995 and 2000 anonymous ads appeared in the Baltimore Sun asking,”Were you ever disciplined by the Monsignor at Blessed Sacrament in Baltimore 1950s-70?” and “Were you ever in Monsignor Wooden’s class at Blessed Sacrament during the 1950s-60s or 1970s?” Wooden died in 1976.

Our Database of Publicly Accused does not state or imply that individuals facing allegations are guilty of a crime or liable for civil claims. The reports contained in the database are merely allegations. The U.S. legal system presumes that a person accused of or charged with a crime is innocent until proven guilty. Similarly, individuals who may be defendants in civil actions are presumed not to be liable for such claims unless a plaintiff proves otherwise. Admissions of guilt or liability are not typically a part of civil or private settlements. For more information, see our posting policy.
