Fr. Francis W. Fortenbaugh

Monsignor. Retired in 1996. Died in 2002. Named publicly as accused by the Archdiocese in 12/2024 and added to its list. Fortenbaugh was first accused in 1988 of inappropriate contact with a minor. DSS did not pursue. Kept in ministry. Two more allegations in 1994 and 1995; the Archdiocese said it tried but was unable to identify or speak with the alleged victims. In 2018 a woman alleged that she and some of her classmates were sexually abused as children by a priest she did not name. In 2023 she identified him as Fortenbaugh.

Our Database of Publicly Accused does not state or imply that individuals facing allegations are guilty of a crime or liable for civil claims. The reports contained in the database are merely allegations. The U.S. legal system presumes that a person accused of or charged with a crime is innocent until proven guilty. Similarly, individuals who may be defendants in civil actions are presumed not to be liable for such claims unless a plaintiff proves otherwise. Admissions of guilt or liability are not typically a part of civil or private settlements. For more information, see our posting policy.
