Fr. J. Michael Flood

Ordained: 1968
Status: Unsubstantiated

Diocese: Archdiocese of Philadelphia PA

A lawsuit filed in 9/2009 in DE accused Flood of abuse of a boy at St. John Neumann High School in the late 1970s. The archdiocese let him continue as pastor since the plaintiff’s identity was not known. Flood denied the allegation; agreed to avoid unsupervised ministry to youth. One of 21 priests placed on leave 3/7/2011 pending an investigation into allegations of the sexual abuse of minors. The suit was withdrawn in 12/2011 due to inconsistencies in the plaintiff’s deposition. In 5/2012 the archdiocese deemed the allegation unsubstantiated and determined that Flood was suitable for ministry.

Our Database of Publicly Accused does not state or imply that individuals facing allegations are guilty of a crime or liable for civil claims. The reports contained in the database are merely allegations. The U.S. legal system presumes that a person accused of or charged with a crime is innocent until proven guilty. Similarly, individuals who may be defendants in civil actions are presumed not to be liable for such claims unless a plaintiff proves otherwise. Admissions of guilt or liability are not typically a part of civil or private settlements. For more information, see our posting policy.
