Fr. Leo V. Dwyer
Personnel files released in 2002 show allegations that Dwyer abused a youth 1967-1968. A lawsuit filed in 1993 claimed abuse by Dwyer and by Frs. John Dunn and Robert Barrett. Dwyer retired in 1979 and died in 1989. Accused in a 2005 civil suit of abuse of a child at St. Mary’s in Hull 1964-1970. Almost all claims in that suit involving multiple defendants settled. The 8/2011 Boston archdiocese’s list reported that there was no formal determination of guilt either because Dwyer died prior to a canonical investigation or it was not complete at his death.

Our Database of Publicly Accused does not state or imply that individuals facing allegations are guilty of a crime or liable for civil claims. The reports contained in the database are merely allegations. The U.S. legal system presumes that a person accused of or charged with a crime is innocent until proven guilty. Similarly, individuals who may be defendants in civil actions are presumed not to be liable for such claims unless a plaintiff proves otherwise. Admissions of guilt or liability are not typically a part of civil or private settlements. For more information, see our posting policy.
