Fr. Alvin T. Downey
In 2002 the Latrobe PA St. Vincent Archabbey Benedictines received an allegation that Downey sexually abused a minor in 1981, while assigned to St. John the Evangelist in Bellefonte. A woman filed suit in 2003 alleging that Downey and two other priests sexually abused her son in 1980-81 when he was 16. She alleged that the knowledge put her in counseling and her son in the hospital. Court ordered that the woman’s suit against the two other priests be dismissed. Her son filed a separate suit in 2/04 against the same defendants. Both settled in 2/05. Included in 8/18 on the St. Vincent Archabbey’s list of credibly accused. Downey died in 2010.
