Fr. Richard T. Donahue

Ordained: 1968
Status: Settled

Died: 09/9/2020
Diocese: Archdiocese of Boston MA

Parish priest in the archdiocese for 23 years. Missionary in Honduras from about 1991-2015. Named publicly as accused by Attorney Mitchell Garabedian 5/17/2019. Donahue was retired at the time of the release of his name. The Archdiocese deemed the allegations unsubstantiated. Ministry restricted since 2015, when a first accuser came forward; applied for compensation from the Archdiocese, awaiting decision in 2/2020. In 2017 another man filed suit, claiming he was molested by Donahue at age 12 in 1976, when Donahue was assigned to Sacred Heart parish in East Boston. Claim settled in 2/2019 for $73K. Donahue denied all allegations. His status on the Archdiocese’s list in 8/2022 is the same, although Donahue died 9/9/2020.

Our Database of Publicly Accused does not state or imply that individuals facing allegations are guilty of a crime or liable for civil claims. The reports contained in the database are merely allegations. The U.S. legal system presumes that a person accused of or charged with a crime is innocent until proven guilty. Similarly, individuals who may be defendants in civil actions are presumed not to be liable for such claims unless a plaintiff proves otherwise. Admissions of guilt or liability are not typically a part of civil or private settlements. For more information, see our posting policy.
