Fr. Thomas Devery
Pastor of Our Lady Star of the Sea in 3/21 when Devery acknowledged to parishioners in a letter that he had been accused four years earlier in an “unsuccessful claim” via the IRCP of sexually abusing a minor about forty years prior. The same accuser filed a lawsuit under the Child Victims Act in 8/19 claiming abuse as an altar server at age 15 in 1984, at a Shrub Oak parish. Devery was kept in ministry. His letter to parishioners was released several days after SNAP publicly stated that Cardinal Dolan did not inform parishioners of the allegations.

Our Database of Publicly Accused does not state or imply that individuals facing allegations are guilty of a crime or liable for civil claims. The reports contained in the database are merely allegations. The U.S. legal system presumes that a person accused of or charged with a crime is innocent until proven guilty. Similarly, individuals who may be defendants in civil actions are presumed not to be liable for such claims unless a plaintiff proves otherwise. Admissions of guilt or liability are not typically a part of civil or private settlements. For more information, see our posting policy.
