Fr. John Curley
Pastor at St. Francis of Assisi Church in Braintree in the late 1960s. Started the Pilgrim Center for troubled youth. Worked with later convicted priest Paul Shanley 1967-69. Died in 11/99. One of nine priests previously not known to have been accused whose names were released in 3/11 by BishopAccountability.org. Names were in a little-known archdiocesan report from 2001 which summarized accusations against priests and their treatment, and the cost of victims’ treatments and settlements. Settlement in the high five figures in 11/20 with a man alleging sexual assault by Curley at age 12 in 1981, while the boy was living at the Pilgrim Center.

Our Database of Publicly Accused does not state or imply that individuals facing allegations are guilty of a crime or liable for civil claims. The reports contained in the database are merely allegations. The U.S. legal system presumes that a person accused of or charged with a crime is innocent until proven guilty. Similarly, individuals who may be defendants in civil actions are presumed not to be liable for such claims unless a plaintiff proves otherwise. Admissions of guilt or liability are not typically a part of civil or private settlements. For more information, see our posting policy.
