Fr. John S. Crews

Executive Director of Hanna Boys Center in Sebastopol beginning in 1984. Resigned 2/6/2013 after a report of an inappropriate relationship with a minor male 1971-1975. Prior to Hanna Boys Center, Crews was assigned to St. Sebastian’s in Sebastopol and St. Joseph’s in Cotati. The alleged victim is deceased; the matter was reported by his widow to the Sheriff’s office prior to notification to the Diocese. In 4/2017 two men stated publicly that Crews sexually abused them when they were teenage Hanna Boys Center residents, one 1999-2001, the other 1984-1985. Included on the Diocese’s 1/12/2019 list of accused, which notes “no assignment” and that Crews retired in 2013. In 4/2019 he was living in SC. Accused in new lawsuit(s) in 2022. Settlement in 2022 with a man who claimed abuse by Crews and other Hannah Center staff over three years, beginning when he was age 11.

Our Database of Publicly Accused does not state or imply that individuals facing allegations are guilty of a crime or liable for civil claims. The reports contained in the database are merely allegations. The U.S. legal system presumes that a person accused of or charged with a crime is innocent until proven guilty. Similarly, individuals who may be defendants in civil actions are presumed not to be liable for such claims unless a plaintiff proves otherwise. Admissions of guilt or liability are not typically a part of civil or private settlements. For more information, see our posting policy.
