Fr. Francis O. Couvillon
Name also spelled Couvillion. Publicly named as accused by the diocese on its list 2/6/2019. After a review of Couvillon’s file in 2019, the Review Board deemed credible allegations of sexual abuse of male minors dating back to the 1950s. A 5/1951 news article shows that he was newly assigned to Our Lady of Guadalupe in Flagstaff AZ, Diocese of Gallup. He apparently was there just a short time, returning by late 1951 to Louisiana. Another news article shows a leave of absence in 8/1955. Couvillon died in 1978.

Our Database of Publicly Accused does not state or imply that individuals facing allegations are guilty of a crime or liable for civil claims. The reports contained in the database are merely allegations. The U.S. legal system presumes that a person accused of or charged with a crime is innocent until proven guilty. Similarly, individuals who may be defendants in civil actions are presumed not to be liable for such claims unless a plaintiff proves otherwise. Admissions of guilt or liability are not typically a part of civil or private settlements. For more information, see our posting policy.
