Fr. Dino Cinel
Historian and teacher at Tulane, living at St. Rita’s in 1988 when a fellow priest found him with child porn and tapes he made of himself having sex with teenage boys in the rectory. Not known publicly for over two years. Cinel admitted to several years of sexual activity with minor boys, particularly in the French Quarter of New Orleans. Criminal charges filed in 1991 for possession of child porn; acquitted on a technicality in 8/1995. Had married a woman and had two children, taught at City U. of NY on Staten Island until suspended. Separated from wife. Ended up in Colombia. Laicized in 2010, divorced in 2015. One civil suit settled. Surfaced in Italy in 2011, claiming sexual abuse as a child and petitioning the Vatican for justice. Murdered 2/1/2018 in Medellin, Colombia by an 18-year-old male who said he was Cinel’s lover. Included on the archdiocese’s list 11/2/2018.
