Fr. Richard A. Buntel
Accused in 1994 of abusing a boy 1979-1985, beginning when the boy was age 14. Alleged to have given the boy cocaine and violent porn and abused him often, including oral sex. Buntel admitted drug use and claimed sex was 1984-1985 only. Settled in 5/1996 for $55K. Accused in 2002 of abusing a homeless male, age 21. Treated at Our Lady’s Hall in 1983 for drugs and personal problems. Drugs and boys date to 1971-1978 assignment. Evaluated at St. Luke’s Institute in 1994 and 1997. Removed in 2002. Allegations found unsubstantiated by the Archdiocese. Status per archdiocese list in 12/2011 is “Found Unsubstantiated; Restricted; Senior Priest.” Buntel died 11/1/2022. (His obituary does not refer to him as a priest, and does not mention his priesthood.)
