Fr. Joseph Bukoski, III
Placed on leave in 5/2002 after allegations of sexually abusing a boy in the 1970s while a Sacred Heart brother, prior to ordination. A second accuser also came forward. Two civil suits were filed in 2003. At least one suit claimed the Order knew of the abuse yet allowed Bukoski to be ordained. This suit settled in 11/2005 after Bukoski admitted to the abuse. (Immediately after settlement, criminal charges were filed against this plaintiff on behalf of a woman who said she was sexually assaulted by him at age 14, 9 years prior. He was acquitted in 1/2007.)

Our Database of Publicly Accused does not state or imply that individuals facing allegations are guilty of a crime or liable for civil claims. The reports contained in the database are merely allegations. The U.S. legal system presumes that a person accused of or charged with a crime is innocent until proven guilty. Similarly, individuals who may be defendants in civil actions are presumed not to be liable for such claims unless a plaintiff proves otherwise. Admissions of guilt or liability are not typically a part of civil or private settlements. For more information, see our posting policy.
