Fr. Philip Calixtus Breton
Philip or Philippe. Worked in 14 parishes. Placed on leave and returned to ministry three times, in 1950, 1951, and 1957. Retired in 1978. Died 4/13/1984. Personnel files released in 12/2002. Accused of abusing altar boys in both the Boston archdiocese and the Manchester NH diocese. Four claims were included in the NH 10/2002 settlement for $950K. Abuse dates back to the early 1950s; Boston, at least, knew then. The Boston archdiocese’s list in 8/2011 reported that there was no formal determination of guilt because Breton died prior to a canonical investigation.

Our Database of Publicly Accused does not state or imply that individuals facing allegations are guilty of a crime or liable for civil claims. The reports contained in the database are merely allegations. The U.S. legal system presumes that a person accused of or charged with a crime is innocent until proven guilty. Similarly, individuals who may be defendants in civil actions are presumed not to be liable for such claims unless a plaintiff proves otherwise. Admissions of guilt or liability are not typically a part of civil or private settlements. For more information, see our posting policy.
