Fr. John Patrick Bertolucci

Per a 2002 lawsuit, Bertolucci sexually abused a boy 1976-79, beginning when the boy was age 12. Suit was filed after the plaintiff said Bertolucci harassed his parents by phone so that they would retract the claims. Bishop and Diocese were dismissed from suit in 7/03; suit against Bertolucci dismissed in 10/03. Bertolucci admitted sexually abusing teenagers in the 1970s. Active until spring of 2002; asked for early retirement. Diocese permanently removed his facilities in 6/02. Opted to live “a life of prayer and penance” over laicization. Died 5/27/15. On diocese’s list 11/30/18.
