Fr. Franklyn W. Becker
Removed in 7/02 for alleged abuse. Arrested in 5/03 on charges he abused a teenage boy in San Diego CA in the late 1970s; case ended in 7/03 by Supreme Court’s Stogner decision. Worked in Wheeling-Charleston WV (Marshall U. chaplain and at St. Joseph’s in Huntington 1/75-8/1/76.) and St. Louis MO in the mid-1970s. Civil suit filed in 12/03 alleged abuse in 1982; dismissed on SOL; upheld by appeals court in 8/06. A claim included in 9/1/06 $16.65M settlement. Laicized in 11/04 per archdiocese. First allegation reported in 3/63 when Becker was a seminarian. New suit filed in 9/10. Personnel files released in 7/13. On San Diego diocese 9/14/18 list. On Wheeling-Charleston diocese’s list in late 2018.
