Fr. Thomas J. Bauernfeind
Parish priest, Vice Chancellor and Chancellor. Report to the Archdiocese in 1987 of sexual abuse of a girl, age 16, in the mid-1970s. The alleged victim said she reported the abuse at least twice prior to 1987, but no action. Bauernfeind was sent to House of Affirmation in MA for treatment and kept in ministry as a parish pastor. Medical leave of absence 1991-1992 after a car accident. Retired in 1998. Faculties removed in 4/2002. Included on the Archdiocese’s in list in 10/2002 of priests accused of molesting children. A second woman reported in 10/2002 that Bauernfeind sexually abused her when she was age 17 in about 1974. She also reported her abuse several times before 2002, to no avail. Both women reported attempted rape. Bauernfeind died 1/01/2003.
